Autobiography
Hi my name is Prisila Perez, I was raised in two towns Tulare as well Lindsay. I was born in Tulare and eight years later I moved to Lindsay. Both towns have shown me how different each community is, although both have shaped a part of me. These both communities not only shaped me but my family and friends have as well.
Growing up my mom never showed me any love I always wondered why. Until one day, my family and I went on a camping trip and my mom talked about her childhood, she explained how her mother never showed her any love growing up so she never learned or saw people showing love in her house. She also said she regrets never being able to show love to her own kids so she is repaying it to her grandkids. This has affected me because I always thought my mom did not love me and it hurt being a child and thinking your own mom doesn't love you. It still affects me today because she shows so much love to my nieces and nephew and I just think I wish I had that love growing up. This taught me to show love to everyone you have have in your life because many may not be getting love at home. I recently lost a family member, we knew he was going to be gone but you're never really prepared for this experience. This event taught me to cherish every moment you you have with your loved ones because you never know when they'll be gone.
My community has shaped who I am because it shows you how to help others and to help out in your town. I moved into this community at the age of eight years old, and it has much community spirit, not only can you attend the festivals but you can also help out set up and have input. Living in a small town like Lindsay has a lot of meaning and can learn a lot from it, you can learn how to appreciate all your town does for the people who live in it, we aren’t just a community some may even consider each other family even though not blood. I’ve learned that you don’t have to be blood to consider somebody family. That has affected me in a huge way because there’s family I don’t really talk or are even there for me, but there’s people who aren’t my blood that are there for me and I talk to everyday.
Family shapes who you are in a huge way. I have one brother he is 25 with 3 kids I also have a sister who is 23 with one kid neither married but with their significant other.Nine years after my sister was born, I came into this world on November 1, 1998. My parents have been married for 25 years. They are the first to teach me about life and prepare me for what life can throw at me. For example,,my first breakup in high school my family told me life will go on this wont be the last breakup I will experience they will be more and those will make you not break you till this day I keep that in mind. My brother has shared many experiences in order to prepare me on what not to do and to be smart about the decisions I make because it affects you in the long run. Being the youngest of three I have watched my brother and sister go through their mistakes and learn from them and watching my parents give them advice on what to they think they should do but they let them choose their decision they want, like I have heard my mom say “ I am here for you, to give you the advice you need but make your own decision don’t make a choice because I said, live your life the way you want to because I already lived mine now it’s your turn”. Hearing all my families experience in life shapes mine in way I will never personally experience but it helps me know what to do if I ever do experience it in the near future. It can also shape who I am because if I know someone is going through a experience like my family before I may be able to help that person from what I know, and it will help me grow as a person.
My friends have played a huge part in my life and who I am. Coming into my freshmen year I knew I would lose friends throughout my high school years. Each friend I have lost but also gained has taught me a lesson that I will carry with me my whole life. One person has recently came into my life half a year ago, he has played a huge part in my life and has helped shape who I have become. He has taught me life lessons that not anyone can. Four of my main friends that have stuck by me for 5 years now they also impacted my life. We haven’t always been close but they have showed me that if someone really wants to be there for you and be in your life they will without hesitation. Losing friends has taught me that each person you lose in life was a lesson and you will always gain someone else. My friends aren’t just friends they are family.
One thing that has also shifted my life is my culture because it has affected me each and every day. It has taught me about tradition and how important it is. Culture can be a huge impact on people's lives such as mine, you're born into that culture also raised in it. It helped shape who I am because it has showed me the importance of being proud of the culture you come from, and embracing it. Traditions play a huge part of every culture, such as in mine traditions are on holidays we have a piñata:Christmas, Easter, Birthdays. If we didn't have one it wouldn't be the same. Because of culture it taught me to embrace who you are and where you come from.
Many events, family and culture has impacted and shaped my life in many ways from a young age. They will keep teaching me and shaping me throughout my life. Each event I have faced has somehow shaped the person I am, many events in my life will keep shaping me I will just learn from each event and help me become a more wise person.
PSA: Verbal Abuse
“Useless”, “Stupid”, “Retard”, “Trash”, “Freak”, “Cheap”. Verbal abuse hurts more than physical abuse because this causes depression which is known as a mental health. Recent reports show that 7.1% of children are verbally abused(Blerma, 2009). Also, many americans don't realize that verbal abuse causes suicide in young teens. Would you like it if you were being verbally abused? Also people take their own lives because of other people's hurtful words. Not everyone can just ignore these hurtful comments and this hurts people more than they think. You’re not alone get help from friends, counselor, teacher, anyone either at school, work, or home. You have a voice, you don't deserve this. If you see signs of verbal abuse please ask and help them.

Overcoming obstacles & Who helped me achieve my goals
I didn't get help from my family to achieve my goal in school so lucky enough I have found a teacher who's helped me achieve these goals I have set myself. I have had many obstacles with school such as; in French, math and choosing a career path way. To overcome these obstacles it wasn’t easy but having a teacher Mr. Doumbia believe in me my past 3 years of high school has helped me believe in myself. Although my family didn't help achieve my goals, my brother was the only one who helped me and encouraged me
French was a huge obstacle for me because I already know Spanish and English and not having the language class everyday is hard because in order to be fluent in a language you have to speak it, write it, and read it every single day but having Mr. Doumbia help me and push me I wouldn't be as far as I am in this language and also life. Since spanish and french were so similar I would pronounce some of my words in spanish so this caused a greater challenge for me. I did push myself too take 4 years of french but I only was able to take 3 because Mr. Doumbia left our district therefore I wasn't able to pursue AP french. Because I was in French 3 I had the chance to be a part of French Honors Society which means I will graduate with honors.
Choosing a career pathway freshmen year was hard because your freshmen year you only have some ideas of what you want your career to be. Ever since my mom was a foster parent I looked into being a social worker because I wanted to help children get a better life. So, I took the pathway of education because it had to do with kids. Now being a senior my career plan has changed. Because I have changed my mind, I would like to change my pathway but it is too late now although I'm already halfway done with my pathway it was hard to pick the pathway I wanted to take. My career pathway had a lot of obstacles because it did involve interacting with younger kids and it tested my patience.
Although I didn't get any encouragement from my family in school, I was lucky enough to get the encouragement I needed by Mr. Doumbia. I've known all throughout high school. Since day one he knew I was capable of many achievements and I knew I could go to him with anything I needed whether it had to do with school or my personal life. Without him I probably wouldn't have accomplished everything I have in school. I wasn't sure whether to take AP french but he told he believed in me and too take it. Even though he left my last year of high school, and I don't have him to go get help from I just think of his wise words he told my past 3 years and it helps me achieve the goals I have set so far my senior year.
My brother always told me to get my work done and be the best I can be. Because he didnt want me to follow in his footsteps and not graduate high school. He always told me, to keep my head up when I stressed about school because one day it will be all worth it. He pushes me to never settle for less no matter what it is. Because of him pushing and telling me the stress will pay off it helped me push myself and accomplish my goals.
